Job Description:
Verity Sunnyvale has an immediate opening for a senior technical
writer to join our dynamic and fast-paced Technical Publications
team. The position requires a committed individual with a strong
technical aptitude and drive to create and maintain user-focused
API, and Developer Kit documentation. Projects include creating
new materials and updating existing ones for a variety of enterprise-
level products than enable customers to publish, navigate, and
organize information available on corporate intranets, the Internet,
and other document databases. You will also be responsible for
some internal documentation to support product development. You
will contribute to our team's processes; research and implement
new ways to improve our current doc suite; plan and execute
customer/audience research; and work very closely with
Development, QA, Program Managers, and Manufacturing during
various phases of product development.
Responsibilities
The senior technical writer is responsible for several major areas of
documentation planning and implementation. You will:
- Champion our users, and develop products that are intuitive to use
- Perform audience and task analysis (with internal and external
customers)
- Install and use Verity products to perform research, make
contributions to UI design, and learn Verity products so you can
write to our audience
- Draft documentation plans
- Identify and communicate risks to management
- Develop online and print material, from planning to production
- Work closely with management in planning and review activities
- Mentor junior writers on the team, as your experience level and
workload permits
Required Skills and Experience
The senior technical writer possesses a broad and deep skill set,
including:
- Solid technical writing ability and experience writing documentation
for a developer audience, specifically about C and Java APIs and
appropriate examples
- Experience writing technical documentation for client/server or
networking products
- Ability to design and create new docs as well as rewrite and update
to include disparate and raw information.
- Must be knowledgeable with Windows and UNIX operating
systems.
- Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience
- Must have experience with development and testing tools
- Expert user of FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, Quadralay, and MS
Word
- Usability testing experience and/or training
- Demonstrated problem-solver and team-player
